Saint Vincent de Paul

History
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul has been serving the poor since 1833 when Frederic Ozanam and other students formed the Conference of Charity.  This grew into what is now known as SSVDP. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is alive and active within our parish. Just within the past few years a vegetable garden has part of the yearly work. The SVDP Society has a seperate organizational structure from the church. See link in Links tab for more detailed information.

Mission Statement
A group of men and women that feel called to help serve the poor in our community offering person to person service to the needyand the suffering. We strive to assist those in need by leading them to assistance for their needs. The needs of the poor could be clothing, utilities, rent, food or spiritual assistance. We spend time with those in need offering counsel, prayer and when available financial assistance. We strive to work with others in the community to lead the poor to a better life through systemic change.

Fundraising and Donations
Funding is limited but is made possible by parishioners that donate at mass collections. Donations can be received at other times in the form of money, clothing and at times furniture. Other fundraising activites do take place on occasion usually around the holidays.

Officers, Members and Meetings
There are numerous officer positions in SVDP. The group elects its members. The officers are President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. Member can work directly with clients or behind the scenes. Meetings take place on a regular basis.

St. Vincent de Paul (1581-1660) was founder of the Congregation of the Mission, Daughters of Charity, Confraternities of Charity, and Ladies of Charity. A man of deep faith, keen intellect, and enormous creativity, he has become known as the "The Apostle of Charity" and "Father of the Poor." His contributions to the training of priests and organizing parish missions and other services for the poor shaped our Church's role in the modern world.
